Kalay Cloud VMS adopted for Remote Smart Agriculture Support System

The Remote Agriculture Support System (遠隔営農支援システム), developed by NTT AgriTechnology, part of the NTT Group, has been combined with TUTK’s Kalay Cloud VMS and adopted for pilot use in the smart greenhouse at National Ilan University (NIU). Designed to support remote agricultural operations, this collaboration aims to lower barriers to entry in farming, reduce labor costs, and enhance both cultivation efficiency and crop yields.

Kalay Cloud VMS Empowers Smart Agriculture Through Cross-Domain Collaboration

NTT AgriTechnology, a subsidiary of NTT East Corporation, part of Japan’s largest telecommunications group, NTT ; TUTK, a leading cloud platform provider in Taiwan, and National Ilan University (NIU), which is dedicated to advancing the local agriculture and forestry sectors, have formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate in the field of smart agriculture.
This partnership combines the Remote Agriculture Support System
(遠隔営農支援システム),developed by NTT AgriTechnology, TUTK’s Kalay Cloud VMS (Video Management System), and NIU’s agricultural expertise and smart greenhouse facilities. Together, the three parties aim to advance the implementation and application of remote smart agriculture solutions. The initiative is expected to effectively lower the threshold for entering the agricultural industry, reduce manpower costs, and enhance farming efficiency and productivity—ultimately attracting more young and new farmers into the field of smart agriculture.

Kalay Cloud VMS Adds Value with Practical Features for Smart Farming

The Remote Agriculture Support System (遠隔営農支援システム)developed by NTT AgriTechnology transmits sensor-collected data—such as temperature, humidity, soil moisture, and soil composition—in real time via a gateway to a mobile APP messaging interface. This allows farmers and agricultural experts to connect instantly through video calls to quickly resolve issues encountered during the cultivation process. It effectively enables less-experienced farmers to gain timely knowledge and expert guidance to improve crop yields.
Meanwhile, TUTK’s Kalay Cloud VMS features a highly scalable system architecture with flexible cross-site monitoring capabilities. It can be tailored to meet diverse application requirements, effectively supporting system integrators in accelerating deployment and adapting to a variety of use cases. When combined with NTT AgriTechnology’s Remote Agriculture Support System
(遠隔営農支援システム), Kalay Cloud VMS further enables the following value-added features:

• Real-Time Remote Video Monitoring

It supports cross-regional and cross-device management, allowing users to monitor live greenhouse footage anytime via mobile phone or computer. It also enables simultaneous viewing of multiple camera feeds, significantly boosting the real-time capability and convenience of remote monitoring.

• Scheduled Cloud Recording and Playback

Through scheduling functions, users can record at set times and automatically store footage in the cloud for on-demand playback. These recordings serve as visual documentation of crop growth and can be used for training, anomaly tracing, and research analysis, contributing to the transfer of agricultural knowledge.

• Event-Triggered Recording

The cameras equipped with motion detection automatically initiate cloud recording and send alerts when people are detected, enhancing greenhouse safety and alert responsiveness.

• Delegated Administration Access Control

Allows role-based access control for users such as farmers, greenhouse managers, and agricultural consultants. This facilitates collaborative management, improves operational efficiency, and enhances task accountability.

Cloud Platform Services Enabling Smart Applications

Through the joint efforts of NTT AgriTechnology, TUTK, and National Ilan University (NIU), Kalay Cloud VMS has not only realized a cross-border and cross-domain application of remote smart farming, but also demonstrated the key role of cloud-based technology in the transformation of smart agriculture.
Looking ahead, TUTK will continue partnering with industry leaders to expand the use of its cloud platform across various domains—including agriculture and security—to accelerate the implementation and scale-up of smart industries.
